Diese FX sind in der Tat eine absolute Bereicherung. Sollte ich wieder einmal auf der Suche nach Electro-FX sein, wird diese Library künftig meine erste Anlaufstelle. Aber auch die Loops sind wieder mal inspirierend. Aufgrund des sehr guten Sounddesigns, des Umfanges und des fairen Preises ist FX Revolution Vol.1 für mich ein klarer Redaktionstipp.

As with Oliver’s previous release, Club Revolution vol.1, the quality is top notch. All samples are well designed, well categorised and supplied in 24-bit WAV format. It’s no surprise that this release is aimed at dance-orientated producers, but we’d suggest that its ear-massaging qualities might give it a home elsewhere, too." 10/10

"FX Revolution is the second samples pack from German producer Oliver Schmitt, whose Club Revolution Vol.1 gained an MTM Excellence award back in issue 69 (our verdict on the release read 'An essential toolkit for anyone writing electronic music'). This time around, however, he’s turned his attention to synth effects, creating a massive library of dark atmospheres, ear piercing noises, sweeps and LFO madness.

This multiformat DVD contains 1.14gb of 24bit WAV audio along with corresponding sampler patches for EXS and Kontakt. The 300+ kick-free FX loop samples also come in Apple Loop and REX2 formats, offering additional and welcome flexibility. The thin, cut-up vocals, raspy noise rhythms and glitchy filtered hi-hat grooves have all been designed to compliment your main beat, much like the loops in Oliver’s previous samples pack. The bulk of the library covers atmospheric sounds, impacts and one-shots, sweeps, backwards whooshes, a folder of extreme LFO based effects and various other heavily processed noises. The evocative atmospherics selection has a cavernous feel and the subtle detail makes it excellent for film soundtrack work or ambient intros.

The sweeps are complex and multi-layered, often combining moving white noise with rising synth lines. It’s a more-than-minor miracle that Oliver has been able to create in excess of 120 synth sweeps that actually sound different from each other.

If you're after simple synth FX sounds, then you may want to look elsewhere, as the production in this collection is both intricate and intense. But while these sounds may somewhat over-shadow a track that's been treated with more basic or sparse production techniques, they will certainly represent an excellent addition to any electronic music producer looking for a more progressive sound, as well as being a great resource for multimedia or game designers."

Effektsounds selber zu machen ist mühsam. Man muss nicht nur einiges von Synthesizern verstehen, sondern diese auch noch besitzen, programmieren, sampeln und die Samples ggf. mit weiteren Effekten aufmotzen. Schön, wenn einem das hier abgenommen wird: Sweeps, Swooshes, lange Atmos, Einschläge, LFO-Gewaber, Rückwärtssamples, FX-Loops und einiges mehr findet sich in aussagekräftig benannten Ordnern. Die Sampler-Programs sind hier besonders reizvoll, weil man damit Effekte wie früher schnell durchprobieren und auch sofort per MIDI-Aufnahme einfliegen kann. Das kommt dem Workflow sehr entgegen. Klanglich wird eine Menge geboten, von sanft und weich bis sägend-aggressiv mit viel Distortion und Ringmodulation. In vielen Fällen merkt man den Samples zwar die Intention an, sie speziell für tanzbare Musik zu verwenden, aber weil die meisten anderen populären Stile ebenfalls Breaks, Fills und Übergänge betonen, findet man hier genug universell einsetzbares Material. Die Sounds wirken insgesamt länger, kühler, voluminöser und halliger als Mutekkis „Vengeance FX“. Sie gliedern sich dennoch wunderbar in bestehende Tracks ein. Alles wirkt betont elektronisch und synthetisch, ist gut sortiert und schnell aufzufinden. Die Formatvielfalt tut ihr Übriges und hält nun vielleicht dauerhaft Einzug bei Mutekki.

"[...] Schmitt setzt auf Klasse statt Masse. [...] Qualität und Bedienkomfort. [...] Die Samples klingen allesamt absolut rauscharm und sind auf hohem, professionellen Niveau produziert. [...] Die Atmos entführen uns beim Anspielen unmittelbar in futuristische Klangwelten, sphärische Space-Sounds, lösen wabernd, knackende Ambient-Geräusche ab. Das exzellent klingende Sounddesign kommt mal esotherisch lieblich wie Yoga-Stunde, dann aber wieder dunkel bedrohlich wie aus einem Horrorfilm. Im nächsten Moment brodelt und pfeift eine cineastische Endzeitstimmung und wechselt über ein schräges Glockenkonzert. Gefolgt von Klängen, die an futuristisches Türenquitschen und Szenen aus einem Raumschiff erinnern, landen wir schließlich bei heftigen Panning-Effekten und Unterwasserklängen, die auch dem modernen Dokumentarfilm gut zu Gesicht stehen. Wer´s am liebsten extrem schräg mag, ist mit dem Madness-Ordner gut bedient: Zu hören sind ritardierende oder schneller werdende Modulationen mit an- und abschwellender Lautstärke, knorrige Psycho-Sounds und verrückte Klangexperimente. Außerdem hat Schmitt noch eine ganze Menge kreativer Backward-, Sweep- und Percussive-Sounds programmiert, die eingefahrene Hörgewohnheiten mitunter kreativ erweitern. Die One-shot-Sounds sind in drei Gruppen unterweilt: long, short und tonal. Klanglich finden sich hier Fetzen aus dem bereits Gehörten wieder und bilden eine wahre Fundgrube fürs Sounddesign und die Computerspiele- und Filmvertonung. Die Loops [...] erweisen sich als perfekte Add-on Beats zu bestehenden Arrangements. Sie lassen sich problemlos untereinander kombinieren und elegant zu bestehenden Grooves hinzufügen. Sehr kreativ läßt sich beispielsweise mit den zahlreichen zerhackten Vocal-Loops arbeiten. Die Schleifen grooven bereits in sich, so dass schnell eine Basis aus mehreren Loops kreiert ist.

´So klingt die Zukunft´

FXR1 ist eine Ergänzungslibrary für Electro-, House- und Dance Produzenten auf hohem klanglichen Niveau. Ihre wahre Stärke liegt aber in der Vielzahl inspirierender Klänge, die sich gleichermaßen fürs Sound-Design als auch das Vertonen von Filmen oder Computerspielen eignen.

Die Multi-Format-DVD hält neben den klassischen 24-bit WAV-Dateien auch gleich die passenden Sampler-Programme für EXS24 und Kontakt parat – sehr praktisch, da sich so die einzelnen FX-Samples schneller vorhören und dann per MIDI einspielen lassen. Die 300 zusätzlichen FX-Loops liegen als WAV-Dateien, Apple- und REX-Loops vor und können so je nach verwendetem Sequenzer bereits im Browser im richtigen Tempo vorgehört werden.
